Match each stay to a stage of the journey

A luxury Tanzania itinerary can combine wildlife areas with the coast, but safari lodges and beach resorts serve different purposes. Choose the route first, then select stays that reduce unnecessary transfers. This list includes mainland lodges, Zanzibar resorts and island retreats; availability, seasonal operation and room categories must be checked for your dates.

1. The Palms Zanzibar

The Palms is an option for a small-scale beach stay in Zanzibar. Compare the villa layout and meal arrangements with your preferences for privacy and time at the property. It serves a different purpose from a safari lodge, so treat it as a coastal stage of the journey rather than a base for mainland game drives.

2. Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

This is a lodge in the Serengeti, not a coastal resort. Choose it in relation to your wildlife route and the areas you want to explore. Game-viewing conditions change by season, and a particular animal sighting cannot be promised. Confirm game-drive arrangements, park fees and transfers separately from the room rate.

3. Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Singita Sasakwa Lodge
Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Sasakwa is associated with the Grumeti area adjoining the Serengeti ecosystem. It belongs in a carefully planned safari itinerary rather than a quick circuit of distant parks. Ask which activities, vehicles and conservation-related charges are included in your proposal. Allow enough nights for the experience instead of using the lodge only as an overnight stop.

4. andBeyond Mnemba Island

Mnemba Island Lodge
Mnemba Island Lodge

Mnemba offers an island-based stay off Zanzibar. Boat access and the setting shape the experience, so confirm transfer arrangements, luggage guidance and the activities available on your dates. It is a different choice from staying on the main island. Explain whether you want a secluded retreat or frequent excursions to Stone Town before choosing.

5. andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge: closure update

andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

The operator currently states that Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is closed for an extensive rebuild, with reopening planned for 2027. Do not book a 2026 itinerary expecting it to operate. Check the official lodge update and ask for a confirmed alternative. Existing photographs show the earlier property and should not be treated as a preview of the rebuild.

6. Baraza Resort & Spa Zanzibar

Baraza Resort and Spa Zanzibar
Baraza Resort and Spa Zanzibar

Baraza is an east-coast Zanzibar resort to compare for a villa-based beach stay. Ask about accommodation categories, meal plans and the practicalities of beach access. The coast’s tidal rhythm is part of planning daily activities. If the resort is your place to rest after safari, leave free days rather than filling every day with excursions.

7. Chem Chem Lodge

Chem Chem Safari Lodge

Chem Chem is an option to consider around the Tarangire and Lake Manyara part of a northern Tanzania itinerary. Confirm the exact property and activity program in the quotation. Walking experiences and cultural visits require appropriate local arrangements. The location and style of guiding should be part of your decision, alongside the accommodation itself.

8. The Manta Resort

The Manta Resort
The Manta Resort

The Manta Resort is on Pemba, which requires different travel planning from a stay on Zanzibar’s main island. Discuss flights, road and boat connections as applicable to your booking. Special room types must be requested explicitly; do not assume a standard reservation includes the accommodation seen in the property’s most famous photographs.

9. Gibb’s Farm

Gibb
Gibb

Gibb’s Farm offers a Karatu-area stay that can complement visits around the northern safari circuit. It is useful to compare when you want a change of pace between wildlife areas. Discuss driving times to your planned activities and leave space for the property experience. A farm or highland stay should not be described as a beachfront resort.

10. Meliá Zanzibar

Melia Zanzibar

Meliá Zanzibar is a coastal resort option for a main-island stay. Compare room, suite and villa categories and request the meal plan that matches your needs. Decide how much time you want for beach relaxation, Stone Town and excursions. Your hotel location affects transfer times, so keep the overall itinerary in view.

Explore our private Tanzania tours and Zanzibar hotel guide. Our team can compare suitable stays and confirm current operation before proposing your route.

Match each stay to a stage of the journey

A safari lodge, a highland retreat, and an island resort offer different kinds of time. On safari, the daily guiding program and access to wildlife areas shape the stay. Around Karatu, a quieter property can provide a pause between excursions. On Zanzibar or Pemba, you may want long afternoons without a departure time.

Compare a few well-matched stays rather than trying to visit every property on the list. Your proposal should explain why each hotel belongs at that point in the route and how you reach the next one. Read our Tanzania planning guide for the overall sequence and our Zanzibar resort comparison for the coastal finish. A beautiful lodge deserves enough nights to enjoy both the setting and the activities.
